Swimming Classes in Mangalore

Swimming is popular in India both as an activity to be undertaken in summers or as a competitive sport. This sport not only exercises the body and helps it to keep it fit but people of all age enjoy it on a regular basis. After Independence many swimmers had added laurels to India and among them are Khazan Singh who won in 1986 a silver medal in the Seoul Asian games.

Swimming is slowly gaining importance amongst other sport activities in Mangalore these days. The Mangalore City Corporation conducts swimming classes for kids during the summer vacations each year and kids take part in such classes actively.  The Mangala Swimming pool is highly known among the masses for conducting various swimming competitions to motivate the young swimmers.

In the state level the Karnataka Swimming Association plays an important part in encouraging the people to enjoy swimming and take it up as a sport. Over the years swimming has gained great prominence in the state especially during the 1980’s when the girls showed great prospects in swimming. These girls motivated others to take swimming as a serious profession and perform in various competitive events both in India and abroad. In the late part of the 1980’s large aquatic centers were established for swimming and children were encouraged to learn swimming in a big way. Other swimming pools were also established in Vijaynagar and Jayanagar.

What are the main aims of swimming training centers established in Mangalore?
Like their big cousin Bangalore, swimming is considered both as an activity and a sport was encouraged in Mangalore. The main objectives of these swimming training centers are:
  • Create awareness among children to appreciate swimming.
  • Use accurate method of training to train these young swimmers and help them enjoy the activity.
  • Maintain necessary hygiene conditions in the swimming people area, so that people can enjoy swimming without suffering from any water borne infection.
  • For students who want to participate in swimming as a sport event, various events in Mangalore should be encouraged and if required help and support of both corporate sponsorship should be taken.
  • The young swimming aspirations should also be given the opportunity to participate in national level and international level events.

Mangala Swimming Pool
This is an important swimming pool for the residents of Mangalore. The swimming pool is situated in Lady Hill Circle, near Lalbagh. If you want to contact it the numbers are (0824) 2220320. The Mangala swimming pool has been rated excellent by the residents of Mangalore and is open on all days of the week for swimming classes. The timings are 6:30 AM in the morning to 10:30 AM mid morning and 3:00 PM early evening to 7:30 PM in the evening. You can visit this swimming center and get to know about the rates for the classes.

NITK Swimming Pool

This swimming pool is located in the inside premises of National Institute of Technology Karnataka. This swimming pool is accessed by resident students of the institute and for more details you can contact the authorities at (0824) 2474080. The swimming pool is open from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm in the evening from Monday to Saturday. The pool remains closed on Sundays.

Mangalore Club also has a swimming pool and the members can enjoy swimming and receive swimming instructions there. More effort needs to be made to make the general common man enjoy swimming in a larger way. St. Aloysius Swimming Pool is also a place to learn swimming in Mangalore. This swimming pool is equipped with state of art facilities and promotes swimming for a healthy life.
